Charlene Carlsen PeayAugust 7, 1937 ~ May 9, 2017 (age 79)
Charlene Carlsen Peay, 79, passed away on May 9, 2017 surrounded by family after a struggle with dementia.
Charlene was born to Charles Rudolph and Crystal Reynolds Carlsen on August 7, 1937. She was the second of seven children. She attended Granite High School and was an accomplished swimmer. She married Morris Glade Peay on October 1, 1955 in Elko, Nevada. She worked at J.C. Penney’s at the Cottonwood Mall for several years and the Salt Lake City International airport as a pre-boarding security guard where she met some lifelong friends. She was incredibly talented; she excelled in everything she did. She had many fond memories golfing with her sister-in-law Sharlene every Sunday. She coached church sports (softball, volleyball, basketball). Charlene was an amazing seamstress, she made several wedding dresses and was able to make her children clothing that looked like they came off the clothing rack. Her cross-stitch projects looked like paintings. If she saw a project, she could make it.
She was a loving, protective, and devoted mother and grandmother. One of her greatest accomplishments was being a devoted caregiver to her special angel grandson, Chad Nordquist. For 27 years she was by his side 24 hours a day and committed her life to making sure he had a comfortable and safe life.
Charlene was preceded in death by her husband Morris Peay; her parents; daughter, Linda Danklef; and grandson, Chad Nordquist.
Charlene is survived by daughter, Pamela Thompson Peay; son, Richard (Margaret) Peay; son-in-law Gary Danklef; grandchildren, Jacqueline (Neil) McFarland, Wayne (Autumn) Thompson, Hillary (Morgan) Ethington, Mallory (Austin) Hunt, Ciara Neilsen, Bret (Julia) Neilsen, Bailee Peay, Madison Peay; 11 great-grandchildren.
The family of Charlene wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Canyon Nursing Hospice care, Barbara, Ellen, Patty, Marianne, and Rachel, you are truly angels.
