wassomelaineElaine R. Wassom returned to her Heavenly Father on January 13,2009. She was born in Tooele, Utah December 23rd 1921 to Charles Rollin (Gus) and Ann Russell. Elaine graduated from Tooele High School in 1938 and during her high school years she was active in the dance department and continued her love of dance at the University of Utah where she joined several dance organizations. During her freshman year at the University of Utah, she also took the state board exam for her cosmetology license. While at the University of Utah she met a wonderful man Robert (Bob) Wassom who played center on the U of U basketball team and soon became her husband. They were married April 9, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple and then moved to Portland, Oregon to live while Bob completed dental school. Elaine worked in beauty salons in Oregon while her husband was attending dental school. After living in Oregon moved back to Tooele where Elaine had a successful career as a beautician, joined her father’s business, Russell’s Beauty Salon, and also helped manage her mother’s business, Ann’s Shop after her mother retired. Elaine was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many church positions throughout her years. Elaine and Bob were ordinance workers in the Jordan River Temple for 12 years where they had many wonderful experiences. She was also an accomplished pianist and organist and had the opportunity to take organ lessons in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. Elaine found great joy in having her family around her and followed her children and grandchildren to their sporting and cultural activities. She loved bowling and golf with Bob and had fond memories of the many golf trips around the country with their friends. Elaine also had many years of civic duties and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She is survived by her daughter Terri (Kenneth) Harker of St. George, Michelle (Dennis) Hansen of Tooele, Bob (Jayne) of Salt Lake and Steve (Debbie) of Smithfield; 13 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Saturday January 17, 2009 at 12:00 Noon in the Tooele North Stake Center 583 No. 270 East Tooele. Visitation prior at the church 10:30 to 11:30 AM prior to services also Friday night 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Tate Mortuary 110 So. Main Tooele. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Make A Wish Foundation 771 E. Winchester Street, Murray, UT 84107.
