Marie Swearingen
Feb 24, 1917 – Jan 28, 2009
Marie passed away peacefully with loving family and friends by her side. She was the most loving and precious mother, grandmother and great-grandmother anyone could ask for. She was a loyal friend. She still had her sense of humor that made us all laugh right to the end as we said goodbye. She was raised in Springville, Utah by her dedicated aunt and grandmother after her mother passed away when she was two years old. Active in high school theatre and playing the trombone in the band, she graduated and left for Hollywood. She rode the cable cars to work as a Rosy the Riverter, building machinery during World War II. She also did some modeling during that time in Beverly Hills. Mom loved to dance and she spent the 1940′s in Hollywood dancing 5 nights a week to all the big bands like Glen Miller, and spending weekends on the beach. She met John Swearingen, a handsome sailor from Georgia, stationed in California and they married in 1947. They lived in California and had two children, then moved to Tooele in 1960. She has had the same neighbors for 50 years and they are her second family She was the President of the old Tooele Smelter Women’s Auxiliary for several terms and made life long friends there. Raising two children and working for Allen’s Food Town kept her busy. It will be a glorious reunion with her son, Van, her husband, John and she will be excited to see her mother again whom she never knew. Marie is survived by her daughter, Virginia and son in law Terry Anderton. Grandchildren, Evan Anderton, Ryan Anderton and daughter in law Clarisse and two greatgrandchildren, lsabella and Noah Anderton all of Salt Lake City. Her love for her family was pure and unconditional. We are left with so many wonderful memories of family trips and times spent together. Good night sweet mother, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.(Hamlet ) A visitation will be held on Wednesday February 4, 2009 at Tate Mortuary from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM with grave side services following at the Tooele City Cemetery.

Dear Virginia and Family,
I met your family when you first moved to Tooele. My Mom, Edith Weyland, worked for Bob Singleton at the bakery on Vine Street. Sherma and Brent (my younger siblings) were near your age. I liked watching you and Van as your parents usually paid much more than the going rate of 25 cents per hour.
Their younger picture is exactly as I remember them – so beautiful and so handsome. Reading her obituary, I recalled how exciting this hometown teenager thought her life had been.
I remember how sad everyone was when Van died. Since I left Tooele in 1982, I don’t know when your Dad passed, but indeed it was a wonderful reunion!
Having lost my Mom 5 years ago, I know how very much you will miss her.
Sharlene (Weyland) Luoma
