1949-2009

Kenneth Howard Nix, 59, of Tooele Utah returned home to his Heavenly Father on March 2, 2009 after a long and valiant battle with lung cancer. Kenneth was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. Known to those who loved him for his kind and courageous nature, Kenneth’s life was an example of strength and determination against seemingly impossible odds. The absence of his voice, humor, and laughter will be keenly felt by his family, friends, and former colleagues. Kenneth was born on October 19, 1949 in Tooele Utah to Linnie Pearl and Elmer Lougy Nix. Kenneth spent much of his youth in the mountains helping his father herd sheep for the family business. A 1967 graduate of Tooele High School, Kenneth attended Salt Lake Community College before beginning his 35 year career as a buyer/analyst for what is now known as L-3 Communications in Salt Lake City . On January 5, 1979 Kenneth married Shannon Hammond for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. On October 21, 1979 they welcomed their daughter Cassandra Britton Nix. An exceptional family man Kenneth was also an avid sportsman who loved to spin a tale about his days of hunting, fishing, and basketball. He was a noble servant of his Father in Heaven and enjoyed helping whomever, whenever he could through his many church callings and home teaching assignments. He was a Stake Missionary, Elder’s Quorum President, High Councilman, and Ward Clerk. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Anna Pearl (Derald) Evans, and sister-in- law Hsiu Mei (Elmer) Nix. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and three siblings: Geraldine (Carl) Anderson, Elmer Lougy Nix Jr., Debra (Paul) Cedarlof as well as many nieces and nephews. Kenneth’s wife and daughter would like to extend their gratitude to the compassionate ICU staff of the LDS Hospital and Dr. James Pearl. Thanks also to his co-workers at L-3 Communications, and the many people who donated blood.
