Marjorie Bee Gowans Kizer

KizerMarjorie1 KizerMarjorieMother was born to Bee Beckstead and Hugh James Gowans October 7, 1917 in Tooele, Utah.  She died surrounded by family August 23, 2009 in Tooele, Utah of causes incident to a fall.  Mom and Dad (M. Leslie Kizer) were married on August 13, 1939 in Wells, Nevada.

She and Daddy were partners in life and in his work.  They lived all through the West when he was employed by the Western Pacific Railroad.  After he retired from the railroad they lived in Alaska, the Yukon Territory, Arkansas, and Montana.  They also lived in Australia for seven years and always wanted to return there.  She often commented that there were “more miles of rail laid in my kitchen than all across the West.”

Mom volunteered for several years at the Tooele City Senior Citizens Center where she made many friends.  She also volunteered for many years with the Tooele City Police Senior Patrol with her friend, Bill Jerome.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Helen Gowans Harris, brother-in-law Frederick A. Harris and, son-in-law Barrie A. James

She is survived by daughters Kristine (William) Fawson and Lu Ann Reeve; grandchildren Shane Fawson, Heidi (Jeremy) Johansen and Colby (Amber) James; great grandchildren Wade and Kizer Johansen and Kendall James; niece Mary Jane Harris; and good friend and companion William Jerome.

We would like to thank the staff at Mountain West Medical Center and the staff at Mountain West Hospice for the very professional and compassionate care they gave to Mom and to us.

Services to be held at 1:00 p.m. at Tate Mortuary (110 South Main, Tooele, Utah) Thursday, August 27, 2009.  Friends may call from 11:30 to 1:00.
