lee.clel2Richard Clel Lee, one of the last authentic American cowboys, died on August 6, 2009 at the age of 77. He was born in Gold Hill, Utah on February 23, 1932 to William Isaac and Thelma Mac Lee. He married Maurine Bevan, his high school sweetheart, on June 6, 1950, and was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 11, 1957. Clel, as we all knew him, loved to rodeo and worked as a ranch hand as a young man and was an accomplished bronc rider and calf roper. He settled in Tooele in 1962 and worked as a lineman for Utah Power and Light, all the while working towards achieving his lifelong dream of owning and operating his own cattle ranch, The Quarter Circle L Ranch in Vernon, Utah which he bought in 1976. He dedicated his energy to his ranch and his church.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and he served on a mission with Maurine in Sandy Valley, Nevada in 2001-2002. He served in many capacities in the LDS church.

He was a member of the National and the Utah Cattlemen’s Association. He served as the Vice President and President of the Settlement Canyon Cattle Association,  he served on the board and was the President of the Grantsville Soil Conservation Association.

Clel is survived by his loving wife, his children Donna Bevan-Lee, Kristine (Mike) Quarnberg, David (Valerie) Lee, Sharron (Charles) Sturges, and Julie (Mark) Olsen. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Bob and sister, Claytha. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Dan and Clark.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Cottage Glenn for all the kind attention and care to Clel and to the hospice workers.

Viewing will be at the Tate Mortuary on Tuesday, August 11 from 6 to 8 P.M. and Wednesday, August 12 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. The funeral will be held at the Tooele Stake Center, 253 S. Second East,  on Wednesday, August 12th at 11 am.
