“Our Cowboy”
Sept. 14, 1928 – Sept. 14, 2009
With great sadness we mourn the loss of our husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, Alonzo Romero, who passed away on Sept. 14, 2009. He was born in Taos, N.M. on Sept. 14, 1928 to Marianna and Carlos Romero. He married the “most beautiful woman in the world”, Julia Garcia on Feb. 1, 1950. Together they had four children; Fran (Bruce) Anderson, Lawrence (Crystal) Romero, Lorraine (Steve) Clark and Beverly (George) Brown. He served during WW II as a member of the United States Armed Forces. He retired from Tooele Army Depot after 35 years of dedicated service as a carpenter and was fortunate to enjoy 26 years of retirement spending quality time with his family and numerous friends. Alonzo was a man of great pride, with compassion and very spiritual. He loved anyone he met and in return they loved him. He loved spending time on his farm, riding his horse and especially raising sheep. He was member of the Pony Express. His outings to Wendover with his wife, family and friends were one of the many joys of his life. He was a member of St. Marguerite’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, children, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandsons, sisters: Agatha (Felix) Gomez, Marcia (Richard) Sanchez, Olivia (Tony) Martinez and Trinnie (Luis) Barela, in-laws: Tonie Romero, Frank (Cora) Garcia, Maria (Theodore) Trujillo, Junior (Flora) Garcia, Cree (Willie) Medina and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and too many friends to mention. Welcoming him into the Kingdom of Heaven are his parents, step-father Juan B. Romero Jr., in-laws Procopio and Odelia Garcia, brother Benito Romero, brother-in-law Juan Garcia. Special thanks to Mountain West Medical Center staff and Mountain West Hospice for the love and support you not only showed our father but to our entire family. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 5:30-7 p.m. with a rosary following. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 18 at 11:30 a.m. with viewing one hour prior to services. All services will be held at St. Marguerites Catholic Church, 15 South 7th Street, Tooele, officiated by Father Diaz.
