Georgia Ann Goodday Van Leeuwen Stewart peacefully passed away 22 November 2009 in the company of her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Omaha Nebraska, on 22 February 1936 to James and Cecelia Carlson Goodday. She attended Judge Memorial in Salt Lake City and received her diploma in 1953. She started her civil service 1968 during the Viet Nam War. While at Dugway Proving Ground she worked in the Communications Office as Telephone Operator, Chief Operator and Accounts Officer and later transferred to the testing area within the Meterology Division as a Met Tech before retiring in 1996. She was an accomplished speaker for Toastmasters Intl.and was awarded many citations on local, district and regional levels and shared her talent in teaching communication skills in many classes over the years. She was very active in the Union holding offices as Treasurer, Steward and later as an EEO advisor where she also taught many EEO classes. Her appointment as Federal Womans Program Manager gave her much joy advising, coaching, and wrote resumes for many who asked for career assistance and advice. She authored and produced a weekly newsletter to relate current news, inform employees, and published many articles in the Dugway weekly newspaper. She was very active in the Catholic Church, taught CCD classes while at Dugway and Lectored during masses, volunteered extensively, and was a member of the the choir at Saint Marguerites. She is survived by her four children, Robyn Mailhot McCown (Lee), Mark Mailhot, James (Michelle) VanLeeuwen, Lori VanLeeuwen, two dear granddaughters Linzi and Emily Van Leeuwen, and Eric Sprinkle whom she loved as one of her own. In addition to her family, she loved nature, fishing, camping, gardening, crocheting, animals, literature, history and singing for God. Services will be held on Thursday 03 December 2009 at St. Marguerites Church, 15 South 7th Street, Tooele Utah. There will be a Rosary at 7:30pm followed by an 8pm Funeral Mass. Her humor and love of life inspired many. She was an incredibly strong, and wonderful woman who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, Georgia requested that donations be made to the St Marguerites School Fund.
