Joseph “JO JO” Perfili
Our kind, loveable “Jo Jo” Perfili passed away on July 10, 2010. Jo Jo was born in Tooele, Utah on June 18, 1926 to Guistino and Pasqualina (Frattarelli) Perfili, the eighth child of 10 children. He was raised in a very loving Italian family while growing up in New Town, a part of Tooele blessed with diverse nationalities. Although he was stricken with physical challenges as a young child, he never let his handicap slow him down. He drove a delivery truck 36 years for Tooele Beverage, delivering beer and pop. He never had an accident nor was cited for any driving violations. After retirement from Tooele Beverage he worked at Red’s, where he was well known by locals and admired. Jo Jo married Edith Graft in July, 1977. They were extremely happy and made a wonderful couple. Unfortunately Edith lost her life to cancer in March of 1978.
Jo Jo was very proud of his affiliation with the Fraternal Order of Eagles for which he has been a member since 1957 (53 years). Jo Jo held the office of Worthy Outside Guard for several years.
Jo Jo was a gentle man who was loved by everyone who knew him. He affectionately referred to his friends as “buddy”; “paisan”; or “goomba”. Through the years he was well known throughout parts of Utah, Nevada and Wyoming. He was just a “happy guy” who always wanted to be around his family and friends, and they in turn loved being around him. Preceding Jo Jo in death were his wife, parents, two infant brothers, one infant sister, brother Philip Perfili, sisters Jean Rathbun and Edith Dill, and nephew Robert Perfili. Jo Jo is survived by his brothers Tony Perfili; Albert Perfili; Alfred (Rose) Perfili; brother-in-law Don Dill. Stepchildren Bonnie (Paul) Cochrane; Sharon (Rendell) Durrant; Sandy (Tim) Booth; Gaylynn (Rick) Huffman; Larry (Lori) Hayes; and Phyllis (Richard) Porter; several nieces and nephews; several step-grandchildren; and cousins locally and in Italy. Both services will be held at St. Marguerites Catholic Church, 510 East Vine Street, Tooele, Utah. A viewing will be held Wednesday July 14, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated the following day Thursday July 15,2010 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services.
We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to all the special nurses and doctors who have cared for Jo Jo. To Cottage Glen for three years of love and support; Harmony Home Health & Hospice; Mountain West Medical Center; and Rocky Mountain Care during his last days.
