William C. Buckingham

William C. (Bill) Buckingham passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2010. Born on May 8, 1920 in Tooele, he was the 5th of 7 children born to William and Catherine Buckingham. His beloved wife Kathryn (Kaye) preceded him in death in 1995. Bill lived most of his 90 years in Tooele where he enjoyed many years of service to his community and country. As a young man he enlisted in the US Army Air Corp after hearing news of Pearl Harbor where he served as a Flight Engineer aboard a B-17 and a B-29 bomber until the end of World War II. Locally he helped organize 4th of July celebrations, golf tournaments, class reunions and served on the Board of Trustees for Camp Wapiti. He was an avid bowler receiving numerous awards and recognition. Golf became his passion in his later years where, due to his competitive nature acquired during his many years as a bowler, he won the Seniors Golf Championship in Tooele. He was a life-long member of the Tooele BPOE where he reached the status of Exalted Ruler, Utah State President and Elk of the year. Two children, Marilyn Leonelli (Jim) and Larry (Darlene), eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren survive Bill. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Camp Wapiti in his memory. A viewing will be held at Tate Mortuary on Monday, July 26, 2010, between the hours of 6 and 8pm. The funeral service will be held at Tate Mortuary on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 11 am followed by graveside services. A luncheon will be held at Tooele Elks Lodge following these services.
