Esther Alice Roach Gilbert, age 90, quietly slipped into the arms of her sweetheart, John N. Gilbert, March 5th 2012 in Tooele, UT. She was born in San Diego, CA to Lena Irene Wood & Charles Lee Roach on Oct. 15, 1921. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt & great-aunt. She was loved and revered by family and friends alike. She received her schooling in Salt Lake City & graduated High School the same time as her youngest son. She was married to James William Henson, divorced. To support her family, she worked in Clearfield and attended night school to receive training as a secretary. She was employed by the Signal Liaison Group out of Philadelphia at the Tooele Army Depot for eight years as John's secretary prior to their marriage. They were married in Tooele, UT on Oct 29, 1960. They were later sealed in the Manti Utah Temple on Aug 9,1968. Their family went from 6 of Esther's children and 2 of John's children to a combined family of 8. After she married John, she retired to stay home and take care of the three youngest of their children. Esther and John bought a motor home and enjoyed many wonderful trips together. They served in the Salt Lake Utah Temple for 11 1/2 years. They loved their service and formed friendships with many of their co-workers that lasted even after they were released from their temple assignment. Esther served in many callings with the LDS Church, Relief Society President and her favorite as a Primary Teacher. She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, John N. Gilbert, her sons, Steven James Henson; David Allen Henson; grandson Alan Dee Hoggard; granddaughter Tamara Jean Higley; brothers, Glen, Virgil, Bill & Kenneth, sisters; Teleca & Helen. She is survived by their children Jim (Peggy) Henson of Roseburg, Oregon, Jeannette (Red) Johnson of Fountain Green, UT, Connie Richins of Grantsville, UT , Jerry (Marilyn) Henson Tooele, UT, Michele (Reid) Wagner of Palmdale, CA, John G. (Cathy) Gilbert of Tooele, UT. They have a combined group of 29 grandchildren, 70 Great-Grandchildren and 25 Great-Great-Grandchildren many cousins, nieces and nephews. Esther will be remembered for her love she showed to John, for her crocheting, ceramics, & porcelain dolls. She was a very quiet lady with a heart of gold and infectious smile. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 10,2012.
