Red, wild and wonderful, Hannah Elaine Bale Ahlstrom returned to her Heavenly Father and her eternal companion on Dec. 15, 2015, in Tooele, Utah. She was born in Goshen, Utah, on May 11, 1925, to I. Bernard and Elgie Steele Bale. She married the love of her life, E. Keith Ahlstrom, on April 5, 1947, and they made their home in St. John, Utah, where they raised their children. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She held many positions in the church, but her favorite was being a temple worker with her husband. She owned and operated the St. John Merc. until she started driving a school bus for Tooele County. Her routes included Ophir, Vernon, Pine Canyon and Erda, where she made lifelong friends and is still known as “Grandma.” She will always be remembered for being “terrible” whenever you asked her how she was. She was also well-known throughout the community for her bread-making and cooking skills. No one who ever stopped at her house was ever allowed to leave hungry. In her family, she was affectionately known as the “snake charmer,” as there was not a fussy baby she couldn’t handle. She took great joy in being called “Grandma Fossil,” because the joke was that she was older than dirt. She wore the title proudly. As someone who never left you wondering what she was thinking, her feisty, spunky personality will truly be missed. Grandma, always remember, “We love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.” She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Farrel, sister Shirlene, brother Albion Dwaine, granddaughter Mindy and her husband. She is survived by her children, Verl (Sherrie) Ahlstrom, Floyd (Monique) Ahlstrom and Wendy (Gary) Lloyd; brother, Shirl Bale; grandchildren Griffin (Amy-Dylin, Kaycie, Wyatt) Ahlstrom, Nate Anderson, Kari (Shane-Shayna, Bryce) Thompson, Melissa (Scott-Taz, Asher, Finley, Will) Adamson, Haylee (Brandon-Tyce, Haven) Bennett and Lacey (Dewey-Link) McNeill. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at the Rush Valley Ward chapel at 11 a.m., with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery. We would like to thank the staff at Cottage Glen and Canyon Home Health and Hospice for the kind, loving and tender way they treated Granny. It will never be forgotten.\n\nTo send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Hannah Elaine (Bale) Ahlstrom please visit our Sympathy Store.
